Trans Dudes with Lady Cancer: A Short Film Documentary

Film Synopsis: What are the chances? That two transgender masculine people living under the same roof were diagnosed with “lady cancer” in the same month? One with breast cancer and the other with ovarian cancer. Trans Dudes with Lady Cancer is a courageous and personal story about the filmmakers' navigating their journey within a medical system that is scrambling to figure out how to provide affirming care for transgender people.

This session begins with an introduction by the Filmmakers Yee Won Chong and Brooks Nelson, followed by the film showing and Q&A with the filmmakers.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Discuss the medical implications of transgender and gender non-conforming patients.
  2. Outline steps to socially interact with transgender and gender non-conforming people in an affirming and helpful manner.
  3. Consider the legal challenges that transgender people and gender non-conforming people face when dealing with insurance, documentation, and even family formation.
