Overview

The 16th Annual Topics in Primary Care will focus on updates on common problems encountered in primary care, bringing excellent instructors to provide teaching geared toward learning, retention and practice change. The conference will have a hybrid format to facilitate in person and remote learning. We encourage in person attendance when possible, for optimal learning and camaraderie; and will utilize audience response and chat features to engage participants.

Grand Rounds features University of Washington professor Dr. Barak Gaster on evaluation and management of cognitive impairment in primary care. The morning sessions will highlight important disparities in pulmonary medicine, updates in conception planning and pregnancy for patients with chronic health conditions, review breast cancer screening risk assessment and screening modalities, review new guidelines for management of H. pylori, restless legs, and immunizations, and conclude with a panel of patients and physicians discussing the healthcare experience of transgender patients.

The afternoon sessions allow a choice of lecture-based topics on financial wellness and migraine diagnosis and management or interactive workshops on shoulder examination and practical use of inhaled medications.

We will conclude with talks on irritable bowel syndrome and the annual “Primary Care Potpourri” on practice changing updates by Michael Soung, MD, FACP.

Teaching methods include lecture, Q&A with faculty, small group discussion and breakout sessions, simulation, laboratory with hands-on practice and case discussion with Audience Response System.
