Join experts from across the spectrum of GI care for this update on gastrointestinal and hepatological diseases and their management. This course features live therapeutic endoscopy cases where participants see, hear and interact with renowned endoscopists treating complex GI conditions in real time; using a variety of advanced endoscopic procedures and novel state-of-the-art technologies that may obviate the need for surgical intervention.

Live cases will be transmitted in high-definition from the Virginia Mason Integrated Procedural Center. Expert facilitators provide commentary and actively engage with course participants and the team to allow real-time feedback, questions and case-by-case discussion. Live demonstration may include therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), as well as other procedures of interest to practicing clinical gastroenterologists and health care professionals interested in endoscopic treatment of digestive disease.

Lecture topics feature experts in the field taking on gripping clinical challenges including diagnosis and treatment of post-cholecystectomy syndrome, EUS gall bladder drainage and gastroenterostomy, management of IBD, treatment options for primary biliary cholangitis, clinical and histopathologic spectrum of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and evidence based guidelines for treatment of gastroparesis.

Finally, a hands-on component will allow participants to become familiar with techniques of endoscopy, using real endoscopes and devices, practicing on appropriate models and platforms. Stations will include EUS linear scope; ERCP/spyglass; clipping, banding and snaring; and hemospray.

Teaching methods include observation of live therapeutic procedures, lectures, case discussion and hands-on practice.
