Overview

The Great Primary Care Tune-Up CME: Start Your Engines, Practical Updates to Power Your Clinical Day offers a full day of high-yield, practice-ready updates for clinicians across primary and specialty care. This course tackles common, high-impact clinical scenarios where evolving evidence, diagnostic uncertainty, and time constraints converge in daily practice.

Through focused sessions and hands-on breakout sessions, participants will enhance their approach to complex disease management. We will delve into:

  • Obesity: Patient-centered communication and the role of evolving therapies such as GLP-1 receptor agonists.

  • HFpEF: Highlighting current evidence and limitations of traditional treatment strategies.

  • Perimenopause & Menopause: Evaluation and management of transitions.

  • Musculoskeletal & Neurologic Complaints: Evaluation and management of neck/back pain, including red flag identification, applying evidence-based imaging decisions, and distinguishing mechanical from radicular or non-spinal etiologies.

Interactive breakout labs will provide hands-on skill development in orthopedic examination of the shoulder, hip, and knee; bedside neurologic pathology localization; and EKG interpretation. These sessions are designed to reinforce clinical reasoning, improve diagnostic accuracy, and build confidence in applying examination findings directly to patient care, what to treat, and when referral to a specialist is indicated.

This activity is intended for physicians, advanced practice providers, residents, nurses, pharmacists, and other members of the healthcare team seeking practical, evidence-based updates that can be immediately applied in clinical practice. Participants will engage through a mix of focused didactic sessions with case studies and real-time audience response capabilities in addition to Q&A with expert faculty. Livestream is available, but in person attendance is where this comes to life with hands-on practice and feedback directly from course faculty that you can take straight into your next clinic day.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Discuss the use of GLP-1 as a tool in a multimodal toolbox used for the treatment of the chronic disease of obesity
  2. Identify key components of a comprehensive primary care assessment for women in the perimenopause transition; emphasizing relevant historical questions, laboratory testing, and the rationale for symptom-based treatment
  3. Recognize red flags in the evaluation of a patient with neck or low back pain that warrant urgent imaging and referral
  4. Differentiate common musculoskeletal pathologies encountered in primary care
  5. Perform an evidence-based initial evaluation to distinguish between mechanical, radicular and non-spinal causes of neck and back pain
  6. Identify key anatomic structures of each joint and correlate them with specific physical examination maneuvers
  7. Differentiate between typical and atypical electrocardiographic presentations of atrial fibrillation
  8. Apply evidenced based evaluation techniques in the treatment of HFpEF (Heart Failure with preserved Ejection Fraction)
  9. Describe physiologic changes in menopause and evidence-based intervention options
