Overview

Nurses who serve in the charge nurse role encounter multiple challenges on a daily basis such as conflict resolution, deescalating stressful situations, maintaining a therapeutic/safe working environment and facilitating daily operations. This workshop will provide a theoretical framework and practical strategies to empower the charge nurse to deal with the daily challenges. Both veteran charge nurses and those interested in pursuing the Charge Nurse role will benefit from taking this course. Learning strategies include lecture, discussion and simulation. Special requirements are as follows:

Participants should have the support of their unit management to take this course.

Participants should be viewed as a role model on the unit. 


ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Describe the essential components of professional behaviors for a charge nurse
  2. Explore practical strategies for preventing stress
  3. Explore practical strategies for managing stress
  4. Describe the 5 rights of effective delegation
  5. Identify the charge nurse’s role in influencing patient/staff safety
  6. Identify the charge nurse’s role in influencing patient/staff outcomes
  7. Discuss effective feedback strategies
  8. Explore approaches for conflict resolution
  9. Identify how the charge nurse facilitates daily operations

Registration

RNs: In order to receive CNE credit for this course you must provide your RN license number.  Add you license number in the "Profile" section of "My CME".  

 


Accreditation

Virginia Mason Medical Center is a provider of continuing education contact hours. Provider is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider # CEP 15905 for 6.25 contact hours.

RN contact hour certificates must be retained by the licensee/attendee for a period of 4 years after the course ends

  • Substitutions: If unable to attend, you may find someone to attend in your place. Please notify the CNE Office of any reservation changes.

  • Illness: If you are experiencing severe cold or flu-like symptoms, please do not attend class. Request a refund.

Refunds: Registrants notifying the CNE Office 7 days prior to the course that they are unable to attend will receive a full refund. Cancellations made 6 or less days prior to the course date will receive a refund minus a $10 service charge.
