Advances in GI will bring together multidisciplinary experts to update your knowledge of gastrointestinal and hepatological diseases and their management.

Get the information you need to improve patient outcomes in a variety of settings, from internal medicine to geriatrics. Clinicians from Virginia Mason’s Center for Digestive Health will take on gripping clinical challenges commonly seen in primary care, including: diagnosis and treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and paraoesophageal hernia; clinical and histopathologic spectrum of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease; review of gallbladder disease, colorectal cancer syndromes, and high risk pancreatic cancer conditions; reevaluation of diverticulitis, chronic constipation, metabolic disorders and weight loss.

Teaching methods include lecture, Q&A with faculty and case presentations.

Target Audience: This course is appropriate for clinicians in general and family practice, internal
medicine, geriatrics and specialty practice.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Explain the relationship between GERD and Barrett’s esophagus
  2. Describe the pathophysiology of paraoesophageal hernia and GERD
  3. Discuss the rising tide of alcohol-related liver disease and how we can prevent and treat consequences
  4. List the tests and imaging comprising the initial evaluation for gallbladder disease
  5. Define colorectal cancer syndromes
  6. Review risk factors for progression from diverticulosis to diverticulitis
  7. Outline management options for constipation and refractory constipation
  8. List the indications for utilizing various weight management options
