Overview

Virginia Mason Update in Otology and Otolaryngology – A Virtual Experience provides a unique opportunity for otolaryngologists, advanced practitioners, and otolaryngology trainees to increase their knowledge and competence in the work-up and surgical care of otologic diseases, as well as to explore a variety of other topics within the field. Due to restrictions on in-person gatherings, this full day course will be presented online via livestream for the first time ever.

The morning begins with live on-line observation of otologic surgery performed by one of Virginia Mason’s otologists. Two procedures will be completed, and during these procedures viewers will hear from the surgeon and have the opportunity to interact with the MD facilitator who will address your questions in real time.

The afternoon on-line lectures will feature both local and national experts in their fields. The afternoon begins with the latest information on hypoglossal nerve stimulation for obstructive sleep apnea, followed by approaches to sensorineural hearing loss in the pediatric patient, an update on the management of pulsatile tinnitus, treatment of unilateral vocal fold paralysis, and exploring the expanding indications for cochlear implantation in children and adults. We will close out the day with timely topics in head and neck cancer, care of the transgender patient, and will close with a COVID-19 update for the otolaryngologist.

Teaching methods include lectures, online surgical observations, and questions and answers with faculty.

Sponsorship: This activity is solely supported by Virginia Mason Medical Center.
